Cod. 2661

Needle-painting paired with panel n. 2660. Oval-shaped, white painted silk, still in its original wood and gilt stucco frame. Water-coloured areas and embroideries worked with coloured silk threads. The scene represents “Diana the hunter”. The goddess is represented wile bending a bow before shooting the arrow. The face and the hand and feet of the goddess are painted, as it is the sky. In a tag placed on the back of the cloth is written the date in which the embroidery was made: 1799. The theme is copied from the works created by Swiss artist Angelica Kauffmann and Italian Francesco Bartolozzi (1727-1815). Angelica Kauffmann (1741-1807) was a Neoclassical painter and a sculptor and she was especially famous for the paintings she realized during her stays in Rome and London.
