Cod. 2649

Regularly woven cloth. Linen. Embroidery worked with coloured silks. The outer border of the cloth is decorated by a frame embroidered with cross stitch. The frame is composed by a jagged branch with small leaves and flowers with the elements rather stiffly set inside geometrical schemes. Composition of the pattern: on the upper border, beneath the frame, is embroidered an alphabet and two sequences of numbers that, by being worked with green thread, as in the outer border, are almost confused with it. Clearly distinguishable are instead the zoomorphic ad phytomorphic motives illustrate in the panels. At the corners are the following verses: When we can view our prospect clear / To mansions in the skies,/ We bid farewell to every fears, / And dry our weeping eyes./ Should earth against our souls engage,/ And fiery darts be hurl’d,/ We then can smile at all their rage, / And face a frowning world. / Alice Tuson / Aged 7 1827.
